The Keld Countryside & Heritage Centre and the Keld Living Museum tell the story of the landscape and families of the upper dale and the people, past & present who have shaped it into the community it is today.

The Living Museum is in what used to be Keld School, a two-room school where children went originally until they were 14 then in more modern times until they were 11. Chris went to Keld School before going onto Richmond for his secondary education. His brother, Ray, also attended Keld School and was part of the last cohort to be educated there when it closed in 1973.

Many of the items on display have been donated by local residents and also from others who although they no longer live here, maintain strong connections with Keld and the upper dale. You are sure to visit Keld during your stay at Hillcrest Cottage. Entry is free although donations are appreciated. Its another small but perfectly formed little gem to be discovered. Spend as much or as little time as you like browsing the artefacts, absorbing the information and quite possibly chatting with a local!
